Power Rankings: No. 17 Miami Dolphins

By James Walker

A weekly examination of the Dolphins’ Power Ranking:

Preseason: 20 | Last week: 22 | Power Ranking since 2002

The Miami Dolphins (5-5) picked up a crucial 20-16 victory over the San Diego Chargers (4-6) in what was essentially an elimination game. The win was good enough to move the Dolphins up five spots to No. 17 in’s Power Rankings.

Miami is now tied with the New York Jets (5-5) for the final wild-card spot in the AFC. The Dolphins and Jets face off twice in December.

Perhaps no team has had more of a roller-coaster season than Miami. The Dolphins began the year 3-0. Then Miami suffered a four-game losing streak. The Dolphins are currently going through an NFL investigation due to the bullying and harassment allegations of embattled right tackle Jonathan Martin.

Miami will have another tough game Sunday against the Carolina Panthers (7-3).
