WR Dobson sees progress with injury

By Mike Reiss

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Rookie New England Patriots wide receiver Aaron Dobson's injured left foot is making progress, but he wouldn't definitively say he's ready for action in Sunday's AFC Championship Game.

“I don't really know what my situation is going to be this weekend, but I'll go out there today, see how it feels, and go from there,” he said Friday before the team's morning practice.

Dobson had a travel bag at his locker, which could be viewed as a sign that he will be making the trip. But there have been cases in the past when players have travel bags at their lockers and ultimately remain home.

The Patriots are leaving for Denver later on Friday.

Dobson, who injured the foot in the season finale Dec. 29 and didn't play in the divisional round of the playoffs, has been limited in practices on Wednesday and Thursday.

As for how much the foot is limiting him, he said: “Right now, I feel like it's OK. I have to do what I have to do. I'm trying not to think about it, go out there and do what I can do, and do it the best I can.”

Dobson said he's stayed mentally sharp by taking “mental reps” but acknowledged it was tough not being able to play last Saturday against the Colts.

“It was hard, just to watch my team battle without me,” he said. “They pulled it out so I'm glad to get another opportunity to hopefully get back out on the field this Sunday.”
