Stokes has two years of experience working with current Dolphins general manager Dennis Hickey. Both previously worked with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before coming to Miami. The Dolphins hired Hickey in January but left the assistant general manager role open until Thursday.
"Eric is an experienced and accomplished talent evaluator with a proven record of success at various levels of professional football and we are thrilled to have him join the Dolphins,” Hickey said in a statement released by the team. “I have been fortunate to have worked with Eric in the past, he is known throughout the NFL as a well-respected forward thinker with strong leadership qualities who will be a great addition to our personnel staff and our organization. On behalf of the entire organization I would like to welcome Eric, his wife Tisa and their daughters Erisa, Payton and Madison to the Miami Dolphins family."
Stokes was previously the Buccaneers' director of college scouting from 2012-13. He also worked for 12 years with the Seattle Seahawks in various roles.
The Miami Dolphins officially named Eric Stokes as assistant general manager on Thursday. ESPN.com and several outlets first reported the news Wednesday.
