Depending on your perspective ...

"Happy cutdown day!"

Or "Sorry to hear about your losses."

The Miami Dolphins already have identified their final 53. They've announced six cuts and have six more to come, but those last half-dozen probably are earmarked for the practice squad.

The most significant transaction was placing outside linebacker Matt Roth on the non-football injury list, ruling him out for the first six weeks of the season.

Released were:

MIAMI -- Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington will play Sunday against the Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders will have quarterback JaMarcus Russell, who didn't play last week, and running back Darren McFadden, who missed four games with turf toe.

Disappointing Raiders wide receiver Javon Walker has been scratched. He has only 15 catches and one touchdown. Maybe he can watch the game with Ernest Wilford.

Here's another interesting decision: Andrew Walter will be Oakland's third quarterback after starting last week. Marques Tuiasosopo will be Russell's backup.

Dolphins make roster adjustments

The Miami Dolphins this afternoon made four roster moves.

They've signed S Tyrone Culver and waived CB Joey Thomas. They also tweaked their practice squad, adding DT Anthony Toribio and releasing WR Jayson Foster.

Culver was a 2006 sixth-round draft pick of the Green Bay Packers. He played 14 games as a rookie but spent all of last year on injured reserve because of a bad shoulder. The Packers cut him Sunday.

Foster developed a bit of a cult following. He was an undrafted rookie out of Georgia Southern, where he was the starting QB as a senior. Foster has blazing speed, but is listed at 5-foot-7 and 175 pounds. He apparently was too much of a project to keep around.
