Source: Michael Thomas heading to season-ending injured reserve

DAVIE, Fla. -- The Miami Dolphins will put backup safety Michael Thomas on season-ending injured reserve this week with an apparent arm/shoulder injury, a source tells ESPN.com. Thomas was injured in the second half of Sunday's 37-0 victory for Miami over the San Diego Chargers.

Thomas was a valuable member of Miami's special teams and played in the nickel and backup safety roles. He played in all eight games and recorded 18 tackles on the season.

Thomas joined the Dolphins late in the 2013 season and was most famous for his fourth-quarter interceptions against Tom Brady in a Dec. 15, 2013 win against the New England Patriots. He is an undrafted player out of Stanford University.
