AFC East: officiating

The Rams thought the Patriots caught a break from referee Scott Green when the teams played in Week 8. Green assessed nine penalties against the Rams and zero against the Patriots.
That was the first time this season a referee failed to assess even one penalty against an NFL team during a regular-season game. It happened three times last season:
- Referee Gerry Austin assessed zero penalties against the Jets during a Week 6 game against the Eagles. Philadelphia committed two penalties. The Eagles won the game.
- Austin assessed zero penalties against the Eagles during a Week 13 game against Seattle. He assessed two penalties against Seattle. The Seahawks won the game.
- Referee Bill Carollo assessed zero penalties against Seattle during a Week 16 game against Baltimore. He assessed six penalties against the Ravens. Seattle won the game.
Austin's crew assessed fewer penalties per game than any in the league last season. The league replaced Austin after the season.
