TAMPA, Fla. -- Larry Fitzgerald's dad is an unabashed admirer of the Steelers' organization.

"It's a family organization, not flamboyant and run by hard-working people," said Larry Sr. during the media day session for the Steelers.

"I enjoyed watching those great Steelers teams of the '70s. For me, they were the greatest teams ever."

The elder Fitzgerald, a sports writer for the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder, had a brief conversation with Steelers owner Dan Rooney during Pittsburgh's hourlong session with the media.

During Fitzgerald's career at Pitt, he was awarded the Dapper Dan 2003 Sportsman of the Year Award at a dinner, receiving the honor from Rooney.

"I can still see that picture they took of them together," Fitzgerald Sr. said.
