Letter to the AFC North

Dear AFC North,

You're embarrassing me.

As ESPN.com's AFC North blogger, I've been ashamed to show my face in public lately. I usually wear a baseball cap and walk with my head down, hoping no one would notice.

It's bad enough fellow division bloggers are laughing at me daily following the recent rash of arrests and accusations. Being the butt of everyone's jokes is not a good feeling.

The AFC North is a special collection of proud franchises with successful histories and knowledgeable fans. Therefore, I can't think of a better division to cover.

But recently I've been sifting through more police reports and court documents than stat sheets, and that's not good. Neither is waking up in the morning and asking "Who’s next to get in trouble?" I can't recall having that issue in two years of covering this distinguished division.

Santonio, Shaun, Ben and Rey, I've worked with all of you and had nothing but great experiences. I also respect and understand that everyone's situation is different. But I think we can all agree it's time to be smarter with how we go about our day-to-day business.

And this message goes for the entire AFC North. We've always had an open and respectful relationship. So I have no problems calling a spade a spade by saying this is getting ridiculous.

Starting today, let's put an end to the madness by getting back to what you do best: playing football.

Sincerely,

Your (temporarily) embarrassed AFC North blogger
