Browns could go after Ward

According to new Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini, the team might be interested in New York Giants tailback and pending free agent Derrick Ward.

"He's a guy we'd look at," Mangini said Friday in a meeting with Cleveland reporters at the NFL combine. Here is the full story in the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

But there are many questions with the Browns potentially pursuing Ward, who gained 1,025 yards primarily as a backup to Brandon Jacobs in New York.

Could the Browns afford Ward? He will be the most sought after free agent tailback and Cleveland has other needs to spend money on such as linebacker and safety.

Also, what does this mean for current starter Jamal Lewis? He just signed a three-year extension last offseason.

These questions won't be answered until free agency. But it should be an interesting offseason as usual with the Browns.
