BEREA, Ohio -- Former Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Sheldon Brown is starting anew with the Cleveland Browns this week in organized team activities.

But Brown also was open and honest about his former Philadelphia teammate, Donovan McNabb, being traded to the Washington Redskins.

"I think it's a win-win for both parties. Donovan is a heck of a quarterback, and he's going to win a lot of games in Washington," Brown said. "Sometimes you have to give young players a chance to play. They drafted [Kevin] Kolb -- everybody can see that coming. I wish both of those guys greatness, and both of them are good players."

As far as McNabb being traded within the division to a hated rival, Brown said he wasn't surprised by the move.

"At the time, it was the best offer from the best team and the best situation," Brown said. "Everyone wants to say 'Why would you trade him here?' But it was the best offer for everyone. You can't really look at the past. He's going to do well in Washington, and the Eagles are going to move on and do well. And that's what it is."

Brown, who also was traded out of Philadelphia this offseason, said he's looking forward to helping the Browns. He's been consistent throughout his nine-year career and is now the top corner in Cleveland, which had the No. 31-ranked defense in 2009.

It's also been eight years since Cleveland last made the playoffs, which is very different than what Brown experienced in Philadelphia. He hopes his success throughout his career can rub off in Cleveland's locker room.

"I believe I'm a winner," Brown said. "I believe that I went 1-21 at the University of South Carolina my first two years. Then I went out the next two seasons and won two Outback Bowls and beat Ohio State, who the next year won the national title. So I'm not a big believer in living in the past."
