Coles The Cincinnati Bengals are wasting little time moving on from the loss of receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com reports Cincinnati is scheduled to bring in former New York Jets receiver Laveranues Coles for a visit Tuesday.
This is an interesting move for several reasons.
It could show the team doesn't have much confidence in younger replacements such as Jerome Simpson, Andre Caldwell and Chris Henry to step into a starting role. Another theory is Chad Ocho Cinco may be moved at some point this offseason, and the Bengals want to acquire a veteran to stabilize their young receiver corps.
Coles, 31, reportedly walked away from $6 million dollars next season to get out of New York. If he is asking for the same type of annual salary, the Bengals may not meet those demands. Nonetheless, it's an interesting move for a team that hasn't done much in free agency.
