Here are the most interesting stories Friday in the AFC North:
- Friday afternoon is the deadline for the Minnesota Vikings to match the Cincinnati Bengals' one-year offer sheet for starting fullback Fahu Tahi.
Morning take: The Vikings likely have their mind made up either way. But there is no reason to rush when a team can take the full week to exhaust every avenue without penalty.
- The San Francisco 49ers appear close to signing former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Marvel Smith.
Morning take: Smith's back issues are what kept him on the market for so long. The 49ers are convinced it's worth the risk.
- The Cleveland Browns will work out three local players on April 14 in Michigan State quarterback Brian Hoyer, Michigan tight end Mike Massey and Ohio State lineman Alex Boone. All three players are from the Cleveland area.
Morning take: I'm not sure either of these hometown products could help the Browns next year. But at least the team is willing to turn over every stone.
- Do fans of the Baltimore Ravens want University of Maryland receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey in the NFL draft?
Morning take: The answer is overwhelmingly "yes." But will Bey be available when the Ravens pick at No. 26?
