Here are the top stories Thursday in the AFC North:
- In Baltimore, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh told reporters he expects No. 1 receiver Derrick Mason (shoulder) to participate in training camp.
Morning take: Mason didn't seem as optimistic recently. But the top goal is to make sure he is 100 percent by the regular season.
- In Pittsburgh, Steelers cornerback William Gay wants to make sure he continues to earn the starting job.
Morning take: The job is Gay's to lose. He has been a project of the coaching staff for a while now, and this is the season Pittsburgh expects it to pay dividends.
- In Cincinnati, Bengals defensive tackle Tank Johnson wants to stuff the run and rush the passer.
Morning take: Although Cincinnati was ranked No. 12 defensively in 2008, there are still some things the unit can improve this season. Getting to the quarterback would be a major step forward this year.
- In Cleveland, Browns kicker Phil Dawson continues to be a no-show.
Morning take: Dawson has been asking for a new deal since last year. But similar to Joshua Cribbs' situation, Dawson may have to prove himself again to a new regime.
