The Pittsburgh Steelers signed linebacker James Farrior, 33, to a five-year, $18.5-million extension Thursday.
Morning take: This signing was all about leadership and ensures that Farrior retires a Steeler. Pittsburgh rarely gives lengthy extensions to players 30 and over, yet the team made the rare exception in this case.
Reports out of Baltimore suggest Ravens quarterback Kyle Boller may not be all that happy with the team's decision to go with Troy Smith as the starter in Saturday's preseason game against the St. Louis Rams.
Morning take: Boller has three turnovers in two preseason games -- and that's with limited playing time. If Boller stopped turning over the football, he wouldn't be in this predicament.
Cincinnati Bengals receiver Marcus Maxwell suffered a serious thigh injury and was waived Thursday with an injury settlement.
Morning take: Life in the NFL can be harsh. Maxwell was well on his way to solidifying the No. 3 receiver spot last week. Then he suffers an injury and now he's on the street. Yikes!
