BEREA, Ohio -- The Cleveland Browns made a surprise cut Monday by releasing cornerback Rod Hood. The team also cut Nate Jackson and Robert McCune as the Browns have until Tuesday to get the roster down to 75 players.
Cleveland signed Hood from the NFC champion Arizona Cardinals, and he was expected to compete with Cleveland starting cornerbacks Brandon McDonald and Eric Wright. But Hood struggled in the preseason and was released.
In terms of quarterbacks, Browns coach Eric Mangini didn't name a starter for the regular season or Thursday's preseason finale against the Chicago Bears. Mangini said that he prefers to go through the entire "process" with Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson.
