BALTIMORE, Md. -- The AFC North version of the Blog Network is in Maryland tonight to cover the Baltimore Ravens' preseason finale against the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons lead, 7-6, at intermission.

Here are some first half notes:

  • The much anticipated (ok, maybe that's overstating it) showdown between the NFL's top rookie quarterbacks resulted in three points and seven punts. Atlanta's Matt Ryan, the No. 3 overall pick, completed 2-of-7 passes for 17 yards. Baltimore's Joe Flacco, the No. 18 overall pick, had more success in the first half and was 8 for 13 for 72 yards. Both quarterbacks were pulled in the second quarter, because neither team could risk injury.
  • Two Baltimore quarterbacks that didn't suit up were Troy Smith and Kyle Boller. Both players are dealing with different ailments. Smith has a viral infection and Boller has a shoulder injury.
  • Rookie running back Ray Rice continues to impress for the Ravens. He rushed for 37 yards on seven carries in the first half, including a nice 23-yard scamper up the left sideline.
  • Many of Baltimore's stars on defense also took the night off, some for rest and some to heal from injuries. Among those players for the Ravens include middle linebacker Ray Lewis, nose tackle Kelly Gregg and cornerbacks Samari Rolle and Chris McAlister.
