Here are some first half notes:
- The much anticipated (ok, maybe that's overstating it) showdown between the NFL's top rookie quarterbacks resulted in three points and seven punts. Atlanta's Matt Ryan, the No. 3 overall pick, completed 2-of-7 passes for 17 yards. Baltimore's Joe Flacco, the No. 18 overall pick, had more success in the first half and was 8 for 13 for 72 yards. Both quarterbacks were pulled in the second quarter, because neither team could risk injury.
- Two Baltimore quarterbacks that didn't suit up were Troy Smith and Kyle Boller. Both players are dealing with different ailments. Smith has a viral infection and Boller has a shoulder injury.
- Rookie running back Ray Rice continues to impress for the Ravens. He rushed for 37 yards on seven carries in the first half, including a nice 23-yard scamper up the left sideline.
