Jordan Palmer taking over in Cincy?

3/2/2011

With one Palmer doing everything he can to get out of Cincinnati, another Palmer is trying to take over a leadership role with the Bengals.

Jordan Palmer, the younger brother and backup quarterback to Carson Palmer, told the Bengals' team website this week he plans to rally the receivers and running backs together and work out in the offseason. During a lockout, players can train together but do not have access to the playbook, coaches or NFL team facilities.

If the season started today, Jordan Palmer would be the favorite to start over Dan LeFevour at quarterback in Cincinnati. With Carson Palmer demanding a trade in January and threatening to retire, the job is wide open.

Will the Bengals go into the season with Jordan Palmer or LeFevour under center if Carson Palmer stays true to his word? Probably not. But Jordan Palmer may be the best of what Cincinnati currently has on its roster, and it's smart for the younger brother to try to seize this opportunity big brother left behind.
