While Batch will take the field first, there is a chance that you could see Dennis Dixon as well. On Monday night, the Steelers had both Batch and Dixon active, which tells me that they wanted the option to use either one.
So, if Batch struggles early, the Steelers could turn to Dixon. Batch is the more experienced backup but he looked ragged when he replaced Roethlisberger to end the first half against the Browns a couple of weeks ago. Dixon has more upside than Batch and is much more athletic than the 37-year-old Batch.
When Roethlisberger was suspended to start the 2010 season, it was Dixon and not Batch who started the first two games of the season. Batch then started the next two games when Dixon got injured.
