BALTIMORE -- The Ravens are holding a 17-13 halftime lead only because they took advantage of the Texans' mistakes.
Baltimore converted two turnovers into two Joe Flacco touchdown passes. After a fumble on a punt return put the Ravens at the Houston 2-yard line, Flacco completed his first pass of the season to blocking tight end Kris Wilson for a 1-yard touchdown. Then, after a T.J. Yates interception, Flacco hit Anquan Boldin for 10-yard touchdown.
How big were those miscues? Flacco threw two touchdowns on six completions in the first half. He went 6-of-15 for 80 yards in the first two quarters. There have been four drops by the Ravens' receivers, which has hurt Flacco's completion rate.
The Ravens drove to the Houston 33 in the final minute of the first half, but a sack of Flacco pushed Baltimore out of field goal range.
Here are some other observations in the first half:
The Ravens are having trouble containing Arian Foster, especially on the outside runs. He ran for 95 yards and one touchdown, 79 of which came in the second quarter.
Boldin is making an impact after missing two games following knee surgery. Matched up against cornerback Kareem Jackson, he has 59 yards on three catches.
The Ravens are winning the field-position battle. The starting field position for the Ravens in the first half was their own 43 while Houston has been beginning drives on its own 26.
Ravens safety Ed Reed has been around the ball but he hasn't finished off the play. He dropped two interceptions in the first half.
