The Cleveland Browns didn’t win pretty. But they did win for the first time in 2009.
Cleveland upended the Buffalo Bills, 6-3, to record its first victory of the Eric Mangini era. A late field goal by kicker Billy Cundiff gave the Browns their second straight win in Buffalo dating back to last season.
As strange as it sounds, Browns quarterback Derek Anderson was terrible in a winning performance. He completed just 2 of 17 passes for 23 yards, an interception, and a 15.1 passer rating. Tailback Jamal Lewis carried the load for Cleveland with 117 rushing yards on 31 carries.
The Browns (1-4) appear to be taking steps in the right direction. After suffering three straight blowout defeats, Cleveland lost in overtime last week to the first-place Cincinnati Bengals (4-1) and recorded its first win Sunday.
Next week the Browns will travel to Pittsburgh to play the Steelers (3-2) in a rivalry game in the AFC North.
