Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin canceled Monday's practice and took his players to an entertainment complex, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
This isn't an unusual move for Tomlin. He has traditionally cut out a practice in June and often takes his team bowling.
Chemistry is still a big part of a team's success, and outings like this can build camaraderie. Some teams take it for granted, but you need to continue to stress this because there is turnover with each NFL team every year. When I was a beat reporter covering the Ravens, I remember players organizing fishing trips or paintball outings.
These days, it seems like the Steelers value chemistry more than most teams in the league. While many teams are moving their training camps to team headquarters, the Steelers are the only team left in the AFC North to go elsewhere in the summer. Working and living at St. Vincent College develops a bond that is lost by staying in-house (the Ravens and Bengals have officially moved their camps to their facilities this year).
