BALTIMORE -- As Lardarius Webb talked to a throng of media Sunday, a Ravens veteran made a joke to his rookie teammate in passing.
"Ease up, superstar," said a smiling Ray Lewis.
For one day at least, Webb was a bright star in Baltimore's 30-7 victory over the previously undefeated Denver Broncos. The rookie defensive back returned a kickoff 95-yards for a touchdown to open the second half and recorded three tackles.
Webb's contribution was a new wrinkle the Ravens (4-3) worked on during the bye week, and it paid off. In addition to contributing in limited sub packages, Webb’s touchdown return jump-started the Ravens to scoring 24 second half points and pulling away. He looked like a veteran, making one cut before exploding through Denver's special teams virtually untouched.
"Everybody just got their man," Webb said of the play. "I just saw a hole and ran as fast as I can. Like I said, we’ve been working all week on getting our man and staying on him for more than a second."
If the Ravens plan to make a run in the second half of the season, they could use more performances like this from their rookie third-round pick. Look for Webb's opportunities to gradually increase if he continues to make plays.
