Of the three AFC North teams that made the playoffs last season, the one that is the unlikeliest to return is the Cincinnati Bengals.
Well, that's according to this week's SportsNation poll. Of the 9,247 voters, 54 percent believe the Bengals are the team that has the best chance of missing out on the postseason in 2012.
The Steelers and Ravens tied for second with each receiving 23 percent. Here's some reader feedback:
Chris from Athens, Ohio, offers his perspective: "The Bengals are the most likely pick not to make the playoffs next year if you look at it on paper. The key thing though is injuries during the season. If Ben Roethlisberger gets hurt, or if the offensive line has injury problems again, the Steelers won't make the playoffs. If Joe Flacco, or Ray Rice gets hurt, the Ravens won't make the playoffs. If the Bengals stay healthy, and the Ravens and Steelers have injury problems, they have enough talent to win the division, and there are other good teams in other divisions that could knock out an injury depleated Ravens or Steelers."
Ben from Pensacola, Fla., chose the Ravens: "The Ravens are the most likely of the AFC North teams to miss the playoffs because of the absence of Terrell Suggs. It amazes me how so many of the media want to dismiss his impact and think the Ravens can simply find ways to work around him being gone. You can't just work around not having a pass rusher who's so good that he not only routinely commands triple teams, he frequently beats them. The Steelers were devastated by Troy Polamalu's absence in 2009 and Suggs is every bit as vital to the Ravens' defense. They're in big trouble if the defense struggles, because their offense is nowhere near good enough to carry them."
Tyler from Columbus, Ohio, questions the selection of the Bengals: "The only legitimate reason anyone can name that the Bengals might not make the postseason is that they haven't gone back to back in 30 years. The team had one of the best free agency periods, one of the best drafts, and will have a full offseason to groom Andy Dalton and A.J. Green in preparation for another third-place schedule. I'm not saying Cincy will set the world on fire this year, but you'd think some people would have learned something from reviewing last year's preseason polls, or God forbid some game tape."
