Jimmy Haslam was just approved as the Browns owner a day ago. So, it's not a surprise that there were some questions about him and the future of the Browns. Here are some highlights:
eric buffalo,ny [via mobile]: This probably won't happen. But what would you think about moving Ike Taylor to strong safety permanently? Even if Troy Polamalu comes back, I think Ike would do well. Move Cortez Allen to starter, Curtis Brown to nickel and get rid of Ryan Mundy. Mundy is a below average player.
Jamison Hensley (ESPN): Cortez Allen has played well at times this year. He has impressed me during stretches. But you can't move Ike Taylor after a poor start. He was the team's best cornerback just a season ago. Plus, it's one thing to move a right tackle to left tackle. It's a different animal to shift a corner to a safety. It took Nate Clements an entire offseason to do that. You can't expect Taylor to do that in a week.
Ravenous128 (Columbia, MD): Given what we've seen so far from the AFCN, what would you say are the biggest needs for the coming offseason for each team? Thanks.
Jamison Hensley (ESPN): Bengals: outside linebackers. Browns: wide receivers and outside linebackers. Ravens: inside linebacker and safety (if Reed isn't re-signed). Steelers: Running back.
Andrew (Ellicott City): Yesterday you brought up Jimmy Smith being a "rare Ravens first-round miss." Seriously? He's been in the league for not even a year and a half. He's got loads of potential, shown flashes of it and as for those red flags he had? Yeah, he hasn't had any off the field problems so far. What say you?
Jamison Hensley (ESPN): Smith hasn't been able to beat out Cary Williams. Name the last Ravens' first-round pick who wasn't starting by his second season. You can't. Don't agree that he has potential. But right now, he's clearly a disappointment.
Phat1963 (Cincinnati): A good afternoon to you Jamison. Any thought on doing a rookie of the year watch for the AFCN? Just saw something on Profootball Focus and they had Zeitler and TRich listed in their top 10 thru week #6 among all rookies. And Burfict in a "five to watch". Who is on your Rookie of the Year watchlist?
Jamison Hensley (ESPN): Top rookies for each team in the division: Bengals-Zeitler. Browns-Richardson. Ravens-Osemele. Steelers-Rainey (by default).
justin pack [via mobile]: Complete the sentence the bengals beat Pittsburgh if ...
Jamison Hensley (ESPN): Dalton doesn't throw multiple interceptions and Roethlisberger does.
John (Euclid, Oh.): Okay, Haslam's got the keys now. Please gimme 3-5 changes you see happening.
Jamison Hensley (ESPN): 1. Gets rid of Holmgren. 2. Gets rid of Shurmur. 3. Gets rid of Heckert.
mexican bengal (Monterrey): Do you think my lovely Bengals are real contenders for AFC North title?
Jamison Hensley (ESPN): Won't answer this question until Bengals beat Ravens or Steelers once.
D-Bo (st. pete): 'Best Player Available' aside, the Steelers have to be thinking linebacker or safety early in the next draft, right?
Jamison Hensley (ESPN): Not a good sign when Steelers fans are asking about the draft in mid-October.
Malek (Abumeri): What do you think Pat Shurmur needs to do retain his job? (other than making the playoffs, because it seems very unlikely at this point)?
Jamison Hensley (ESPN): I think the decision has already been made.
Brian (Valley Forge, PA ): Hey Jamison, what is your take on Jimmy Haslam and Joe Banner's press conferences? The media coverage in Cleveland has been very positive, but I would appreciate an outside perspective.
Jamison Hensley (ESPN): Too early to judge right now. You want an owner who is invested in the team personally as much as monetarily. Haslam fits that description. Whether he is going to be too hands-on, that's when you get in that bad Jerry Jones range. So far, Haslam has been impressive.
