Here are some first-half observations:
Coming off various aches and pains, Browns kick returner Joshua Cribbs said this week that he is finally starting to feel like himself this season. He proved it with an explosive 92-yard kickoff return in the first quarter that gave Cleveland a spark. He has lacked that burst earlier in the season. It was the fifth career kickoff return and the first for Cribbs this season.
Ravens rookie quarterback Joe Flacco made some big-time throws in the first half. His 47-yard touchdown pass was right in stride to receiver Mark Clayton. And Flacco made some big third-down throws to keep the chains moving. He is 10-for-17 in the first half with 153 passing yards and a touchdown.
Browns counterpart Derek Anderson has been steady. He hit six different receivers in the first half and looks to be going heavy to tight ends Kellen Winslow Jr. and Steve Heiden. The pair have combined for four catches and 50 yards. Anderson has thrown for 125 yards on 10-of-16 passing.
The Ravens have tried the "Suggs" package three times with backup quarterback Troy Smith in the first half, and neither time it's worked. Twice there was a handoff to the running back for minimal gains and once Smith kept the ball on a quarterback option and was crushed by Cleveland linebacker Willie McGinest.
