Bengals' Brown named player of month

Cincinnati Bengals kicker Josh Brown has been impressive in replacing the injured Mike Nugent this month. In fact, he was among the most impressive players in December.

Brown was named the AFC special teams player of the month. Signed Dec. 6 after Nugent injured his right calf in practice, Brown went on to convert 11 of 12 field goal attempts (91.7 percent), with his only miss coming on a desperation 56-yarder in Pittsburgh. His 43-yard field goal with four seconds left on Dec. 23 in Pittsburgh clinched a playoff berth for Cincinnati.

This marks the second player of the month award for Brown. He previously won the award in October 2008 when he played with the Rams.

The Bengals have won seven of the league's weekly or monthly AFC awards this season, which sets a single-season record for the most in franchise history.
