Free agency officially begins March 12, so the AFC North blog is counting down the 20 best free agents (unrestricted and restricted) from the teams in the division. Let's continue with No. 9 ...
Ravens tight end
Status: Restricted free agent
The good: Pitta surpassed Ed Dickson and took over the tight-end position for the Ravens in 2012. He finished with 61 catches (tied for second on the team) and seven touchdowns (tied for most-ever by a Ravens tight end). He also scored a touchdown in three of four postseason games, including one in the Super Bowl. Pitta also has good hands, dropping just three passes all season.
The bad: He doesn't have great size for a tight end, which shows up in run blocking. Pitta also has a history of concussions, sustaining at least three of them during his three seasons in Baltimore.
The bottom line: Pitta, who was drafted in the fourth round in 2010, has to get at least a second-round tender as a restricted free agent. Don't be surprised if the Ravens reach a long-term agreement at some point this year with Pitta as they did with Lardarius Webb when he was a restricted free agent last offseason. Pitta is one of Joe Flacco's closest friends on the team and they've developed quite a rapport on the field together.
