Jones' agent, Pater Schaffer, told ESPN's Adam Schefter that Jones slapped the woman after she threw a beer bottle at him. Schaffer called the arrest "a travesty of justice."
Jones announced that he was arrested on Twitter: "Just got arrested for protecting myself, I will not let this break me or change what I have work so hard for ..."
The police will get to the bottom of this incident after talking to witnesses. All we know now is that trouble seems to find Jones, who was suspended for the 2007 season by the NFL after repeated offenses.
This is also the third time since October 2010 that Jones has been involved in an off-field incident in Cincinnati. His last arrest came nearly two years ago for disorderly conduct while intoxicated and resisting arrest outside a Cincinnati nightclub. He later pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was placed on one year of probation.
Jones spoke about turning his life around at last summer's NFL rookie symposium.
"I'm at a point in my life where I'm not doing the same things that I used to," Jones told reporters at the Bengals' minicamp last year. "Now that I'm grown up you are accountable for certain things. Everything you do reflects on you and the consequences are yours."
Jones re-signed with the Bengals this offseason, signing a three-year, $5.35 million contract. He is expected to back up at cornerback and have a role on special teams.
The Bengals begin their mandatory minicamp Tuesday.
