No surgery for Maualuga

Cincinnati Bengals starting linebacker Rey Maualuga will not need ankle surgery, and his recovery time is approximately six weeks, the AFC North blog has learned.

Maualuga broke his left ankle in a victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Dec. 27.

The rookie second-round draft pick was a key cog in Cincinnati’s defense this season, recording 63 tackles and one sack.

Maualuga, who was placed on injured reserve, is expected to be ready for the Bengals’ offseason program this spring.

Cincinnati will host the New York Jets Saturday in the Bengals’ first playoff game since the 2005 season.
