Reed

In this week's visit to the film room, we check in with Scouts Inc. to get their take on Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed.

Here is comprehensive film analysis from Scouts Inc.'s Keith Kidd:

  • Ed Reed is the best ball-hawking free safety in the NFL and a perfect fit in the design of [defensive coordinator] Rex Ryan's defensive schemes. One of the main reasons Ryan has incorporated more pressure packages this season has been the consistent play of his secondary, which has expanded Reed's role. He is still an unbelievable athlete who can matchup on the outside perimeter and cover a wide receiver. He still has excellent vision and instincts in coverage, and is one of the best in the league at reading the quarterback while closing aggressively to break up plays when the ball is in the air. His angles are very good and he has outstanding anticipation and ball skills. He is a threat to score anytime he touches the rock. He has rare instincts with excellent range and has solid route recognition with the ability to beat receivers out of breaks. Against the run, he is also very effective moving downhill and finding the ball carrier.
