So what does this mean for 2008 second-round pick Jerome Simpson?
The Coastal Carolina product may be skating on thin ice entering his third season. Simpson hasn't shown the Bengals' coaching staff much the past two years, recording just one catch for two yards.
At best, Simpson may be the fifth or sixth receiver on Cincinnati's depth chart entering next month's offseason program. If the Bengals add another quality receiver, via the draft or free agency, Simpson could slide even further down the list.
Simpson's lofty draft status, not his production, kept him on Cincinnati's roster the previous two years. But if the light doesn't turn on in 2010, the Bengals might get tired of waiting.
Here is a look at Cincinnati's receivers:
*Chad Ochocinco
*Laveranues Coles
Andre Caldwell
Matt Jones
Quan Cosby
Jerome Simpson
Maurice Purify
Freddie Brown
*Starters in 2009
