Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Hines Ward recently had offseason surgery, but it's not the type of surgery many expected.
According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Ward had a "clean up" procedure on his shoulder following the Steelers' Super Bowl XLIII victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Ward had been dealing with a sprained MCL. But, citing a team source, Ward will not need knee surgery.
It is unknown what type of shoulder ailment Ward was dealing with. It was never discussed by the team or showed up on the injury report. According to Bouchette, the shoulder injury shouldn't impact his playing status for 2009.
