Examining John Clayton's QB rankings
By James Walker
On Tuesday, ESPN.com senior writer John Clayton provided his quarterback rankings for the 2010 season.
Here is where Clayton ranks quarterbacks in the AFC North:
No. 4: Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers
Skinny: Outside of Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Drew Brees, there is no one better than "Big Ben" at quarterback, according to Clayton. Big names such as Aaron Rodgers, Philip Rivers and Tony Romo have put up huge numbers but have no rings to show for it.
No. 10: Carson Palmer, Cincinnati Bengals
Skinny: Clayton has confidence that Palmer will bounce back and have a great 2010 season. But I'm surprised 14 quarterbacks are in his "elite" category, and Palmer is one of them.
No. 12: Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens
Skinny: Flacco also is in Clayton's "elite" category. In my opinion, it's too early to give that title to Flacco, who still has room to grow. But Flacco's physical ability is undeniable, and the Ravens are expecting a breakout season from the third-year quarterback.
No. 33: Jake Delhomme, Cleveland Browns
Skinny: The Professor is not impressed with Delhomme's stellar preseason. Clayton, like most people, still has questions about the veteran quarterback coming off the worst year of his career with the Carolina Panthers.
