Updates on Haloti Ngata and Dick LeBeau
By James Walker
Tuesday evening provided some news for a pair of big names in the AFC North.
Starting with the Baltimore Ravens, the team placed the franchise tag on Pro Bowl defensive lineman Haloti Ngata. He was due to become one of the top free agents this offseason.
Teams have until Feb. 24 to place the tag on franchise players.
"The tender allows us to secure Haloti as a Raven right now," Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said in a statement. "As we have said, our intention is to enter into a long-term contract with him. We want him to be a Raven."
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette also reports that longtime defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau expects to sign for another year with the Steelers. For the past few seasons LeBeau, 73, has been coaching on a year-to-year basis and told the paper he will return in 2011.
Pittsburgh represented the AFC in the Super Bowl XLV but fell just short in a 31-25 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
