Joe Montana to star in MNF opening
By Jamison Hensley
Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana, who has a connection with the San Francisco and Pittsburgh areas, will star in the Monday Night Football opening tonight before the Steelers play the 49ers.
Montana played for the 49ers from 1979 to 1992 and led them to four Super Bowl championships. He is also a native of Western Pennsylvania, which has always been a hotbed for NFL quarterbacks.
According to Elias Sports Bureau, tonight is just the fourth game in Monday Night Football history to feature two teams with at least 10 wins and a winning percentage of .750 or better. The 49ers played in -- and won -- all three previous occurrences.
