Charlie Batch has struggled against Ravens
By Jamison Hensley
To say playing against quarterback Charlie Batch improves the Ravens' chances of beating Pittsburgh Sunday would be an understatement.
As everyone has read by now, the Steelers are 0-6 against the Ravens since 2004 when Ben Roethlisberger isn't starting at quarterback. If that doesn't make the prospects for Pittsburgh look grim, Batch is 1-4 in his career against the Ravens and his statistics show why he has such a poor record.
He has completed only 49.3 percent of his passes (34-of-69) against Baltimore with two touchdowns and four interceptions. His passer rating is 54.7.
This isn't the same vaunted Ravens defense that Batch has faced in the past. But it's a defense that has held teams to an NFL-best 14.5 points over the past four games.
The Steelers offense has gone the opposite direction recently without Roethlisberger, who has been ruled out for a third straight game. Over the past two weeks, the Steelers have averaged the fewest points per drive in the NFL, according to ESPN Stats & Information. Pittsburgh's average points per drive (0.61) is even lower than the Chiefs (0.65).
