How Ravens can clinch on Sunday
By Jamison Hensley
Four teams could have clinched playoff berths in the AFC on Sunday. The only team that failed to do so was the Baltimore Ravens.
The New England Patriots and Denver Broncos won their divisions, and the Houston Texans earned a postseason spot. The Ravens, though, can earn their way in Sunday at the Washington Redskins.
Here's how the Ravens can win the AFC North: Ravens beat the Redskins along with the losses by the Pittsburgh Steelers (home against the San Diego Chargers) and the Cincinnati Bengals (home against the Dallas Cowboys).
Here's how the Ravens can earn a playoff berth: Ravens beat the Redskins. If the Ravens tie the Redskins, they can get a playoff berth if the Steelers or Bengals lose.
With a 9-3 record, the Ravens are in a three-way tie for the second-best record in the AFC with the Patriots and Broncos. When multiple teams are tied, the first tiebreaker is conference record if all teams haven't played head to head. The Patriots, who are 8-1 in the AFC, are currently the second seed because of a better conference mark than the Ravens and Broncos. The Ravens, who are 8-2 in the AFC, are the third see because they have a better conference mark than the Broncos, who are 6-2 in the AFC.
The top two seeds in the AFC get a first-round bye and play host to a divisional playoff game.
