Browns' search for veteran guard continues
By Jamison Hensley
The Cleveland Browns rejected the trade for Seattle Seahawks guard John Moffitt after he failed the team's physical. The Browns get back defensive tackle Brian Sanford from the Seahawks.
Even though this trade failed to go through, this shows that the Browns aren't satisfied with their current guards. Cleveland will likely look at another trade or wait until the final cutdowns to add a veteran interior offensive lineman.
The Browns have a hole at right guard because Shawn Lauvao and Jason Pinkston are expected to miss the first couple of games of the regular season with ankle injuries. It would be a stretch for the Browns to start Garrett Gilkey, a seventh-round pick from Division II Chadron State (that's in Nebraska, for those who didn't know). He's a developmental player, not an immediate starter.
The specifics of Moffitt's failed physical are unknown. Last year, he had elbow surgery during training camp and dealt with lingering elbow and knee issues toward the end of the season.
After the Browns rescinded the trade, the Seahawks sent Moffitt to the Denver Broncos for defensive tackle Sealver Siliga.
