Will Ravens show interest in T.J. Yates?

By Jamison Hensley

The Baltimore Ravens have signed three players who have been familiar with new offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak's system.

Yates
Could they add one at the quarterback position?

The Houston Texans released T.J. Yates on Tuesday, a source told the NFL Network. Yates played three seasons under Kubiak in Houston and started seven games, including two in the playoffs.

The Ravens can bring in Yates to compete against Tyrod Taylor for the No. 2 job behind Joe Flacco. Taylor hasn't had a strong offseason, and the Ravens expressed disappointment in Taylor's play earlier this year. A sixth-round pick in 2011, Taylor is entering the final year of his contract.

Yates, 27, was a fifth-round pick by the Houston Texans in 2011. In three seasons, Yates competed 60 percent of his passes for 1,100 yards with three touchdowns and six interceptions.

The only other quarterback on the Ravens roster is rookie Keith Wenning, a sixth-round pick. He doesn't appear ready to handle the backup job this season.
