Early Influence: Dwight Freeney

Before training camps kick off, a number of players and some coaches will pay tribute to people who helped them make it to the NFL as part of the AFC South Blog’s summer series: “Early Influence.”

Dwight Freeney, Colts defensive end

“Jack Cochran, my high school coach [at Bloomfield High School in Connecticut]. He was a guy that’s always in my head. It was really the work ethic with him. It was all about hustling, working hard. He kind of built that into me and I kind of carried that on to later years. I think it all started with him.

“I am still in touch with him. I never have told him that, but he definitely did have that impact. I played soccer, so he introduced me to football for the most part.”
