Behold the 'NFL Playoff Machine'

12/1/2010

Here is a fantastic, super-duper new creation from our technical folks that will help you burn all sorts of time.

It will also be where I refer the thousands of people who ask me about playoff berth scenarios between now and the conclusion of Week 17 games.

Ladies and Gentlemen, behold ESPN.com’s “NFL Playoff Machine.”

Enjoy at your own risk.

But since there are so many games left that will influence things, here are the basics regarding the AFC South possibilities right now.

The Colts, Jaguars or Titans would be assured of winning the AFC South if they win their remaining five games.

  • The Colts would be 11-5 and the Jaguars couldn’t be better than 10-6 because the scenario would include an Indianapolis win over Jacksonville on Dec. 19.

  • The Jaguars would be 11-5 and the Colts couldn’t be better than 10-6 because the scenario would include a Jacksonville won at Indianapolis on Dec. 19.

  • The Titans would be 10-6 and the Jaguars couldn’t be better than 10-6 (with two losses to the Titans), the Colts couldn’t be better than 9-7 and the Texans couldn’t be better than 9-7 because of all the head-to-head results.

The Texans could win out and be 10-6 and be assured of finishing ahead of the Titans. But they could still finish behind the Colts if Indy was 11-5 or behind the Colts (on a conference record tie-breaker) and/or Jaguars (on a division or conference tie-breaker).
