Good line from Peyton Manning Tuesday when he talked with Indianapolis media.
Asked if he'd been surprised that Brett Favre came out of retirement, he said, "No. Was anybody?"
He then mentioned a recent question about his tradition of writing letters to players who retire.
"A guy asked me the other day about me writing letters to retired players and why I haven't written one to Brett Favre," he said. "I've written it, I just haven't mailed it. I've had it written for about five years. I'm not surprised. Last year was a little more on our radar, because he was coming to the AFC to the Jets. Now that he's back in the NFC, around here we haven't talked about it as much."
Meanwhile, Manning refused to even touch on the concept of his own retirement:
"The only people who can relate to the position [Favre's] been in is guys that are retired now. I really can't speak for him or what he's thinking and what not. Like I said, you keep creeping that word into my mind. You start talking about post-career, retiring, it becomes more of a reality. I'm trying not to think along those lines. I'm trying to think young and think in the now. That's one thing Coach [Jim] Caldwell does talk about a lot, is focus on the now. I'm taking my head coach's advice."
