NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The search for the root of Chris Johnson's problems continue.
I’m not interested in making a federal issue out of parsing his Wednesday news conferences.
But he did say something that you might find telling.
In response to a question about expectations attached to his big new contract that gave him $30 million guaranteed, he said you don’t get a big new deal over expectations, you get it for what you’ve done.
That seems to suggest that instead of regarding the big new money as a carrot he regards it as cake. Instead of feeling like he has to go earn it, does he feel like he got what he deserved for services already rendered?
I don’t think he thought it out or even if it meant anything on an underlying level. I doubt he meant to leave us with that as a possibility.
But it certainly is one.
