What I think they are thinking in the four team headquarters of the AFC South Monday afternoon.

Houston Texans

Again? Seriously? It’s going to be difficult to sell our guys any we-are-a-good-team stuff this week. We have serious intestinal fortitude issues and maybe they are DNA-deep. Change the coordinator, address defense in free agency and the draft and things haven’t gotten better -- they’ve actually gotten worse. When we know the primary method of attack is going to be Maurice Jones-Drew and we can’t do better than that, well where do you go from there? Everything is up for review: coaching, scheme, players, game-day breakfast. The last thing we want is the offense -- not without sin considering the way we failed to tie it at the end -- to start pressing, thinking it has to do it all. But does it have to do it all? We’re dead last in run defense, with a whopping 17.4 yards per game cushion on Tampa Bay.

Indianapolis Colts

We didn’t like two road prime-time games in six days, but now that we swept them we can look back and say it fortified us. We need Dwight Freeney to be OK, and fingers are crossed while we await test results on his leg injury. Outside of that, we’re feeling awfully good about ourselves three games in. Those storylines about the coaching turnover and Marvin Harrison’s release have dissipated, and while we still need to make gains in rushing and rush defense, it isn't so bad to be 20th and 26th, respectively, in those departments, when the pass offense and pass defense are more than enough to offset any deficiencies. And do you see the young guys continuing to grow? Think there aren’t a lot of teams that would like Pierre Garcon and Melvin Bullitt on their rosters today?

Jacksonville Jaguars

Beautiful day, isn’t it? We know we’re young and need some time. But after two losses we stuck together and kept working and turned that Battle Red Day deal upside-down. Maybe they’ll save it for someone else’s visit to Houston next year. We got an offensive outburst, we leaned on our singular star (Jones-Drew), we got an efficient game out of David Garrard where his running played a role and we found a big defensive play at a crucial moment -- thanks, Daryl Smith, for the forced fumble at the goal line and recovery in the end zone. Talk all you like about the talent gap, but we’re tied for second place in the division. The Titans shouldn’t be looking at a trip down here and thinking it’s going to make them healthy.

Tennessee Titans

Yowza. We can talk all we want about being talented and tick off all the things we believe we are good at. But there is no getting around this: We rank right now with the Dolphins, Browns, Chiefs, Bucs and Rams. Those teams will be vying for the top pick in the draft. Will we? Our old defensive coordinator, Jim Schwartz, has one more win as coach of Detroit that we do without him. What to hang our hat on now? Back to basics. Run and stop the run. In Jacksonville we need to get our offensive line going and feed the ball to Chris Johnson and LenDale White, we have to make the Jaguars find an alternate means to beat us than with Jones-Drew and we need to make it difficult for Garrard to find ways to beat us. A lot easier said than done. If we keep saying everything is OK, can that make it true?
