The worst teams get the highest picks and should have the most snaps for their rookies the following year.
Per ESPN Stats and Info, that doesn’t hold entirely true through six weeks in the AFC South. The Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars have played one fewer game than the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans, so we look at per game averages for comparison, too.
The Titans are playing rookies more than the Jaguars, the one thing that skews from what we’d expect here.
Why? Well it circles back to the Jaguars controversial use of a their third-round pick on punter Bryan Anger. The Difference between the Jaguars and Titans rookie snaps is pretty much the 229 snaps Tennessee’s gotten out of defensive tackle Mike Martin against zero from Anger.
All these counts do not include special teams’ snaps.
Here are the snap counts for first- and second-rounders from the division.
Colts quarterback Andrew Luck -- 386
Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon -- 271
Titans wide receiver Kendall Wright -- 273
Texans outside linebacker Whitney Mercilus -- 62
Colts tight end Coby Fleener -- 240
Jaguars defensive end Andre Branch -- 277
Titans outside linebacker Zach Brown -- 179
