ESPN Stats and Information has been looking over wide receivers and has some very interesting numbers.

Reggie Wayne is fourth and Andre Johnson seventh among wideouts on the list of how many times they’ve been targeted. (These are receivers with at least 11 catches and the list doesn’t include tight ends or running backs.)

The receivers being thrown to most:

Most targeted WR in the NFL through Week 4
  • R. Moss, NE, 45
  • S. Smith, NYG, 44
  • N. Burleson, SEA, 41
  • R. Wayne, IND, 40
  • C. Johnson, DET, 39
  • T. Houshmandzadeh, SEA, 38
  • A. Johnson, HOU, 38
  • C. Ochocinco, CIN, 36
  • S. Holmes, PIT, 35
  • S. Smith, CAR, 35
And for all the years the Titans have struggled to find a quality wide receiver in the draft, first-rounder Kenny Britt's early work certainly suggests they’ve found a good one who can stretch the field and provide bang for the buck.

These players produce the most yards per time they are targeted. This stat could be considered the equivalent of the QB stat yards per attempt. (Minimum 11 catches.)

Wide receivers yards per target
  • V. Jackson, SD, 12.9
  • S. Breaston, ARZ, 11.8
  • K. Britt, TEN, 10.8
  • H. Ward, PIT, 10.8
  • D. Henderson, NO, 10.7
