Three developments of note at Titans practice Wednesday:
1) Backup quarterback Vince Young spoke to the media and deserves major props for the way he handled a potentially awkward situation. The gist: the coaches still have confidence in him and he always wants to play, but he’s fully behind Kerry Collins and he’s not paying attention to any clamoring from fans calling for him to take over.
“I’m not really interested in those questions right now, because that’s not really what I am looking for, for us to lose to get back in the game,” he said. “That’s like saying no respect for your teammates. I definitely have a lot of respect for my teammates. If they’re struggling, we’re all struggling. We need to put the pieces together so we can get everything right.”
2) Tony Brown had overnight mail from the league, but he’s not opening it. After some soft penalties were called against defensive linemen for “hits” on quarterbacks, it seemed inevitable he’d get hit for one or both of his two giant hits on David Garrard. Neither drew penalties.
“Whatever they say I did, I didn’t do,” Brown said to laughs. “We’re 0-4, that’s the last of my worries.”
One hit appeared to be helmet to helmet, but Brown said a close look at the film would show it to be a perfectly clean hit right in Garrard’s chest with his facemask. The other could have been seen as him driving Garrard into the ground.
Brown won’t open the envelope, he said and he’ll know how much the fine was when a dented paycheck arrives.
3) Cortland Finnegan (hamstring) was limited in practice but declared himself ready to return. The Titans' other starting cornerback, Nick Harper (ribs), was out.
