ARLINGTON, Texas -- Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak started second-year quarterback Case Keenum in tonight's preseason finale against the Dallas Cowboys and he did well.

The first quarter featured more running than passing, but Keenum showed his ability in the second. He had a couple head-scratching throws, but if he didn't he wouldn't be a backup. He had more well-thrown balls, including a perfectly placed 27-yard touchdown to receiver Lestar Jean.

The Texans led 14-3 at halftime. Keenum is 9-for-13 for 128 yards and a touchdown.

And here's a totally useless stat for you: With that touchdown pass, Keenum became the franchise leader in preseason yards with 442. He topped David Carr's previous total of 441.

Incumbent backup quarterback T.J. Yates is coming up in the second half for one more chance to defend his turf. Yates is only 135 yards from breaking Keenum's newly minted record, too, so we could have another useless stat for you soon.

(And I apologize for the unintentionally punny headline)
