Colts face a bad Oakland defense in opener

8/30/2013

INDIANAPOLIS -- Scoring points shouldn’t be a problem for quarterback Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts offense this season.

They’ll be able to prove that very early in the season. In Week 1 against the Oakland Raiders, actually.

Oakland’s defense gave up points on 16 of its 18 drives during the preseason.

The Raiders gave up almost 28 points a game last season. It looks like they’re trying to surpass that average this season.

The Colts will focus on getting healthy after they trim their roster down to 53 players by Saturday at 6 p.m. ET. Coach Chuck Pagano said he doubted that they would make any cuts on Friday.

Running back Ahmad Bradshaw, who didn’t play in the preseason because he's been working his way back from offseason foot surgery, is expected to increase his snaps in practice next week.

Tight ends Dwayne Allen and Coby Fleener and offensive lineman Mike McGlynn should also be ready for the Oakland game.

Tackle Anthony Castonzo’s status for Week 1 likely won’t be known until sometime next week.

Castonzo (knee) or not, the Colts shouldn’t have a problem scoring against the Raiders.
