It just won’t be Thursday in the Colts' preseason opener against the New York Jets. Colts coach Chuck Pagano said the plan is to hold Wayne, who missed the final 10 weeks of last season with a torn ACL, out for that game.
“[Wayne’s] going to see some action before Sept. 7 [against Denver], what that is, is TBA,” Pagano said.
Pagano doesn’t know how many snaps the starters will play against the Jets. He and the coaching staff will meet over the next few days to make that decision. You can expect the starting interior part of the offensive line – Jack Mewhort, Khaled Holmes and Hugh Thornton -- to get extensive playing time because of their inexperience.
“They do have to play,” Pagano said. “Obviously we know a little bit more about our tackles [Anthony Castonzo and Gosder Cherilus] than we do the interior. It’ll probably be a fair statement to say those guys will get a little bit more time than the outside guys.”
